“Chenille” comes from French, originally meaning “caterpillar,” because chenille yarn has a surface with numerous short, fluffy fibers, resembling the soft down of a caterpillar, hence the name Chenille.
Chenille yarn consists of core yarn and fluffy fibers. A special twisting method distributes the short fibers vertically across the yarn surface, creating a soft, full, velvety effect. Similar to embroidered patches, custom chenille patches offer three edge cutting options: heat cutting, laser cutting, and overlocking. The appropriate method can be chosen based on individual needs.

Laser cutting is a compromise option, also suitable for complex and irregular patterns. The absence of seams around the edges greatly satisfies your customization needs.
Heat Cutting
Unlike overlock stitching, heat-cut fabric patches have smooth, clean edges. If your design is intricate and complex, heat-cutting is a better option.
Custom Chenille Patch Backing Options
No Backing
The most common type has no backing and can be secured by sewing at any location.
No Backing
The chenille patch has a thinner, harder plastic backing that provides support, allowing the patch to maintain its support for longer periods.
Velcro Backing
The back features Velcro fasteners made of tiny hooks that can be attached to the napped surface.
Ironing Adhesive Backing
By applying pressure to the chenille patch with adhesive backing using a heat press or iron, the adhesive can be attached to the fabric in approximately 10-15 seconds. This method is suitable for DIY crafts or small-batch production.
3M Self-Adhesive Paper
Using pre-cut 3M adhesive backing on chenille fabric patches is more suitable for short-term use compared to other methods. Examples include DIY projects, event material preparation, and promotional material production.
